Dr. John Y. Akparep  – Governing Council Member, Convocation

Dr. John Y. Akparep is a Senior Lecturer with the Department of Management Studies, Simon Diedong Dombo University of Business and Integrated Development Studies. He is currently the Head, Department of Health Services Management and Administration of the School of Business; having served previously as the School’s Examinations Officer for 4 years and Industrial Attachment Coordinator for 2 years. He is also a Member of the University’s Governing Council; representing Convocation.

John Y. Akparep, has a PhD in Social Administration (Researching into Students-Management Conflicts in Tertiary Institutions), MPhil in Development Management and BA Integrated Development Studies; all form the University for Development Studies. Also, he has an International Diploma in Business, Economics and Commerce from Cambridge International College, Britain and a Teachers Certificate A from Offinso Teacher Training College. He is an alumnus of Akomadan Senior Secondary School, English and Arabic Junior Secondary School and Seventh Day Adventist Primary School; all in Akomadan, Ashanti Region.

He is also a Member of the University’s Governing Council; representing Convocation. Dr. Akparep delights in Student Politics and so was President of Graduate Students Association of Ghana (GRASAG) of the University for Development Studies (UDS) and President of the Students’ Representation Council (SRC) during his studies for second and first degrees respectively. He represented students on the UDS Governing Council for 2 years.

He was also School Prefect in his Basic and Second Cycle Schools and therefore has rich experience in student affairs. He was adjudged the 2nd Best National Students’ Lecturer of the Year 2020 by the National Students Award Scheme and Most Interactive Lecturer of the Year 2019 at the NUGS UDS Excellence Awards, Wa Campus. He also received the Vice Chancellor’s Award for Best Lecturer of the Wa Campus of UDS for 2017/2018 Academic Year. Additionally, he received an Excellent Paper Award in London in December, 2019 at an International Conference organized by the International Institute of Engineers and Researchers. Dr. Akparep was accredited by the BUSAC Fund as a Consultant/Business Development Service Provider (BDSP) and the Skills Development Fund (SDF-COTVET) as an Intermediary to provide Business Services/Consultancy Services to their Grantees.

He has consulted widely in this regard for over 34 Private Sector Organizations in the Country. He is a Director at ASAMAK Realty Limited and a Director at the Centre of Posterity Interest Organization; both in Techiman, Bono East Region. Dr. Akparep has10 peer reviewed publications to his credit. His research interest is in the area of Human Resource Management with focus on the Management of Conflicts in Organizations. He has supervised and graduated up to 20 graduate students and has being an Internal Examiner to over 20 graduate thesis. He serves as a Patron to many student associations in the University and provides mentorship and inspiration to many students in the wider scope of life and career guidance in particular, through speeches delivered at students organized events and through classroom lectures.
