About FSSA

On behalf of faculty and students at the Faculty of Social Science and Arts (FSSA), I warmly welcome you to the Simon Diedong Dombo University of Business and Integrated Development Studies (SDD-UBIDS). The members of FSSA are also cognate staff members of other Faculties, especially the Faculty of Integrated Development Studies (FIDS). The FSSA, established in 2020, is one of the newest and most dynamic at SDD-UBIDS. The Faculty’s tradition in social sciences and arts dates to 1994, when FIDS was established. Today, FSSA comprises five departments.

The Faculty’s disciplines include economics, geography, sociology, social work, social and development administration, political science, history, modern languages, and diasporan studies.  Our training is largely based on offering students a theory-driven social science and arts education interlaced with intensive practical/experimental training and research. The primary mission is to teach these multi-disciplinary courses to students seeking to fulfill the general education requirement, to acquire specific and general knowledge in social science and arts, and to provide support for professionalism in development-oriented programmes. The FSSA approach to teaching and learning is designed to enable the SDD-UBIDS graduates to display their professionalism with the needed knowledge, ability, and skills required of a social scientist in the present-day contemporary dynamic global society.

Our strong intellectual tradition, the breadth and quality of our programmes, and the productivity and dedication of faculty has made FSSA the preferred choice for many prospective students both local and foreign. The Faculty has established teaching and research networks with a number of universities around the world, and these networks provide rewarding opportunities for both students and faculty. We welcome more partnerships as we strive to provide more quality education to our students. The research programmes in the Faculty continue to grow and increasingly encompass emerging development and social issues of concern to the country and the global community.

I encourage all prospective students to explore our website to learn more about our academic programmes, our dedicated faculty, and our supportive university community. Thank you for your interest in FSSA and SDD-UBIDS. Please contact me at kosumanu@ubids.edu.gh if you have any questions or comments.

I wish you the best of everything, excellent accomplishments, and God’s blessings!
