Overview of Department
Established in 2022, the Department of Organisational Studies and Development provides excellent training in organizational development, practice and research in the public and private sectors. The department offers the underlisted undergraduate and post graduate programmes:
- Diploma in Organisational Practice and Development
- Bachelor of Science (BSc.) in Organisational Practice and Development
- Master of Science (MSc.) in Organisational Practice and Development (Weekend)
- Master of Philosophy (MPhil.) in Organisational Practice and Development
- Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Organisational Practice and Development
Our progrommes
Programmes currently on offer in the department include the following:

- Diploma in Organizational Practice and Development (2-year regular programme): The Diploma in Organisational Practice and Development (DOPD) programme offers a platform for people to acquire appropriate skills for designing, implementing and managing good corporate governance schemes. Besides training fresh students from the Senior High Schools, the programme provides an avenue for lower level staff of organizations and institutions in Ghana to be retrained.
- BSc. Organizational Practice and Development (4-year regular programme): The BSc. Organisational Practice and Development (OPD) programme equips students with logical and critical thinking to conceptualize and translate innovative ideas and management skills into projects, programmes and products that will drive the next generation of organisations and institutions.
- MSc. Organizational Practice and Development (2-year regular programme): The MSc. in Organisational Practice and Development (OPD) programme will equip students with logical and critical thinking capacity to conceptualize and translate innovative and researched-grounded ideas into very competitive products that will guarantee a significant market share for organisations and institutions in the country and beyond.
- MPhil. Organizational Practice And Development (2-year programme): The programme will equip students with logical and critical thinking to conceptualize and translate innovative and well-researched ideas into very competitive products that will guarantee formidable market shares for organisations and institutions in the country and beyond.
- Ph.D. Organizational Practice and Development (3-year regular programme): This programme is designed to equip the students with logical and critical thinking competencies and capacity to conceptualize and translate innovative ideas and management skills into projects, programmes and products that will drive the next generation of organisations and institutions. There are a few similar programmes being run in both private and public tertiary institutions in Ghana, but these only focus on aspects of organisational practice and development.
Diploma Organizational Practice and Development
The entry requirements into the programme are as follows:
Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSSCE)/West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE). For this category of applicants, candidates must obtain credit passes (i.e., at least grade E in SSSCE or D7 in WASSCE) in Core English, Core Mathematics, Integrated Science/Social Studies, and any other three elective subjects in General Arts or Business Programmes only. SSSCE applicants must have obtained grades ranging from A to E, whilst WASSCE applicants must have obtained grades ranging from A1 to D7. Thus, applicants with SSSCE must have an aggregate score of 26 or better, while WASSCE holders must have an aggregate score of 36 or better.
NOTE: SSSCE and WASSCE results would be assessed as per the table below.

General Certificate of Education (GCE) Candidates
Candidates who possess the GCE certificates must have obtained five (5) passes or credit passes at GCE Ordinary Level including English and Mathematics, and three (3) passes at the GCE Advanced Level in a relevant subject area (General Arts and Business subjects only). For the GCE applicants, one of the ‘A’ Level passes should be at least grade ‘D’.
Mature Applicants
Mature applicants must have attained at least 25 years of age as at the time of the application. They must be holders of SSSCE/WASSCE or GCE Ordinary and Advanced certificates. This category of applicants must passed a written and oral examination to be conducted by the University.
BSc. Organizational Practice and Development
The entry requirements into the programme are as follows:
Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSSCE)/West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE). For this category of applicants, candidates must obtain credit passes (i.e., at least grade D) in Core English, Core Mathematics, Integrated Science/Social Studies, and any three elective subjects in General Arts or Business Programmes only. For this category of applicants, candidates must have obtained credit passes (i.e., at least grade C6) in Core English, Core Mathematics, Integrated Science/Social Studies, and any three elective subjects in General Arts or Business Programmes only. Applicants must have obtained grades ranging from A1 to C6. Thus, applicants with must have an aggregate score of 36 or better.
NOTE: SSSCE and WASSCE results would be assessed as per the table below.

General Certificate of Education (GCE) Candidates
Candidates who possess the GCE certificates must have obtained five (5) credit passes at GCE Ordinary Level including English language and Mathematics, and three (3) passes at the GCE Advanced Level in a relevant subject area (General Arts and Business subjects only). For the GCE applicants, one of the ‘A’ Level passes should be at least grade ‘D’.
Mature Applicants
Mature applicants must have attained at least 25 years of age as at the time of the application. They must be holders of SSSCE/WASSCE or GCE Ordinary and Advanced certificates. This category of applicants must pass a written and oral examination to be conducted by the University. Applicants with organizational practice experience will have an added advantage.
MSc. Organizational Practice and Development
To be admitted into a programme leading to the award of Master of Science degree, a candidate must:
- Hold a bachelor’s degree [second class minimum] with relevant work experience in an appropriate field of study from a recognized university;
- Submit an official transcript of his/her academic record;
- Submit three referees’ reports, two of which must be from people who are familiar with the applicant’s academic work;
- Those seeking a research related degree must attach a 3-5 page research proposal of their intended area of research; and
- Pass a selection interview.
MPhil. Organizational Practice and Development
To be admitted into a programme leading to the award of master’s degree (MA./M.Phil.), a candidate must:
- Hold a good bachelor’s degree (Second Class Lower or better) in an appropriate field of study from a recognized university;
- Submit an official transcript of academic record;
- Submit three referees’ reports, two of which must be from people who are familiar with the applicant’s academic work;
- Those seeking a research related degree must attach a 3-5 page research proposal of their intended area of research; and
- Pass a selection interview.
Ph.D Public Policy and Management
To be admitted into a programme leading to the award of Doctor of Philosophy degree (Ph.D.), a candidate must:
- Have obtained at least a good two-year Master’s degree or its equivalent by research in an appropriate field of study from a recognized university or at least the equivalent analogous professional qualification, such as CIMA, ACCA, or ICAG;
- Submit an official transcript of academic record;
- Submit three referees’ reports, two of which must be from people who are familiar with the applicant’s academic work;
- Those seeking for a research related degree must attach a 3-5 page research proposal of his/her intended area of research;
- Pass a selection interview; and
- Submit a research proposal.
Diploma Organizational Practice And Development
The Diploma in Organizational Practice and Development programme seeks to achieve the following objectives:
- Provide a platform for elaborate studies of the key drivers of institutional and corporate organizational management in Ghana and beyond;
- Train a well-grounded class of professional corporate development management practitioners;
- Train graduates in critical and analytical skills capable of turning around the fortunes of ailing institutions and organisations in Ghana and in Africa as a whole;
- Equip students with the right set of skills for planning and managing corporate projects and programmes in order to enhance institution and organizational development; and
- Provide the environment for graduates to have relevant foreknowledge in the operations of organizations relative to the provision of public goods and services.
BSc. Organizational Practice And Development
The Bachelor of Science in Organizational Practice and Development programme seeks to achieve the following objectives:
- To provide a platform for elaborate research into the key drivers of institutional and corporate organizational development in Ghana and beyond;
- To train a well-grounded class of professional corporate development practitioners;
- To train students in critical and analytical skills capable of turning around the fortunes of ailing institutions and organisations in Ghana and in Africa as a whole;
- To equip students with the right set of skills for planning and managing corporate projects and programmes in order to enhance institutional and organizational development; and
- To provide the environment for graduates to have relevant foreknowledge in the operations of organizations relative to the provision of public goods and services.
MSc. Organizational Practice And Development
The MSc. in Organizational Practice and Development programme seeks to achieve the following objectives:
- To provide a platform for ground-breaking corporate and social research;
- To train graduates in critical and analytical skills capable of placing Ghana on an enviable position globally to attract more investment into the country; and
- To provide a conducive environment for graduates to acquire relevant practical knowledge that enhances the competitiveness of organizations relative to the provision of top-notched public goods and services.
Ph.D Organizational Practice and Development
The Ph.D. in Organizational Practice and Development programme seeks to achieve the following objectives:
- To provide an advanced-research oriented platform for elaborate studies of the key drivers of institutional and corporate organizational development in Ghana and beyond;
- To train a well-grounded class of experienced professional corporate development practitioners, who can drive development through advanced empirical research;
- To turn out advanced research graduates who can critically reflect on institutional situations and build credible dedicated teams and provide excellent leadership capable of supporting Ghana’s efforts towards addressing social, economic, educational and political challenges that appear to be stagnating development;
- To train advanced graduates with the appropriate attitudes, skill sets and motivation for policy planning, implementation and management of corporate projects and programmes that places institutions and organizational development at the centre-stage of national and African continental development; and
- To provide the environment for advanced graduates to carry out relevant development research while cross-fertilizing relevant foreknowledge in the operations of organizations relative to the provision of essential public goods and services in addition to gaining new insights in the phase of a globalized world driven by high-speed information, communication and technology.
BSc. Organizational Practice and Development
The outcomes envisaged from the BSc. Organisational Practice and Development programme include but are not limited to the following:
- Graduates of the programme will acquire basic research skills that will enable them to reinvigorate and promote the research and development drive of institutions and organisations that they will work in;
- Graduates of the programme will be well baked and skilful drivers of organisational development in Ghana;
- The presence of graduates of the programme will be felt in the public and private sectors as well as the civil society across all the sixteen regions of Ghana and beyond;
- Graduates are expected to make impactful contributions to building very strong and viable institutions in Ghana and across Africa;
- Graduates will gain in-depth knowledge on the operations or activities of organisations;
- Graduates will have adequate knowledge to diagnose organizational problems and solve them;
- Graduates will acquire the requisite knowledge for the management of organisations; and
- Graduates will have acquired appropriate skills in planning and managing organisations to ensure that they positively impact the communities under their jurisdiction.
MSc. Organizational Practice and Development
The outcomes envisaged from the MSc. Organisational Practice and Development programme include but are not limited to the following:
- Graduates of the programme will be much sought after as appropriate replacements of the current captains of industry, and will use the acquired knowledge, skills and relevant research prowess to propel Ghana’s development and enable it to regain respect.
- The presence of graduates of the programme will be felt in the public and private sectors as well as the civil society through a renewed research agenda that enables institutions and organisations to become resilient and stronger even in times of adversity.
- Graduates of the MSc. programme is expected to make impactful contributions towards promoting the local Ghanaian industry.
MPhil. Organizational Practice and Development
The outcomes envisaged from the M.Phil. Organisational Practice and Development programme include but are not limited to the following:
- Graduates of the programme will be much sought after as appropriate replacements of the current captains of industry who will use their knowledge, skills and targeted relevant research prowess to propel Ghana’s development and enable it to regain respect.
- The presence of graduates of the programme will be felt in the public and private sectors as well as the civil society through a renewed research agenda that enables institutions and organisations to become resilient and stronger even in times of adversity.
- Graduates of the M.Phil. programme are expected to make impactful contributions towards promoting the local Ghanaian industry.
PhD. Organizational Practice and Development
The outcomes envisaged from the Ph.D. Organisational Practice and Development programme include but are not limited to the following:
- Graduates of the programme will be well baked research-oriented and skilful drivers of organisational development in Ghana and beyond;
- The presence of advanced research graduates of the programme will be felt in the public and private sectors as well as the civil society across all the sixteen regions of Ghana and beyond as a result of the depth of their impactful research knowledge and skills that they will fuse into the organisational renewal and development spectrum;
- Graduates are expected to use their more advanced research projects to begin to make impactful contribution towards building very strong and viable institutions in Ghana and across Africa;
- Graduates will have in-depth knowledge and blend their advanced research skills in the operations or activities of organisations;
- Based on empirical advanced research, graduates will gain knowledge in diagnosing organizational problems and solving them; and
- Graduates will have advanced knowledge and experience in the management of organisations, and will apply their knowledge and skills in research-driven policy planning, planning, implementation and manage organisations in such a way that they positively impact the communities under their jurisdictions.
