Our Mandate

Statute 29 of SDD-UBIDS spells out the functions of the Directorate as follows:

  1. Coordinate the university-wide research agenda.
  2. Source and manage funding for research.
  3. Develop and advise Academic Board on the (i) criteria for the research component of assessments for promotion, (ii) motivating research efforts of Faculties/Schools, and (iii) sponsoring research and conferences.
  4. Ensure standard/quality research by writing out research proposals that can be sold and executed to register the University’s presence in the Ghanaian economy and the international domain.
  5. Coordinate and support the publication of journals and books in the University.
  6. Liaise with the Directorate of Academic Planning and Quality Assurance (DAPQA) to advise management on procedures that promote research-based teaching.

  7. Engaging in qualitative research through participatory rapid appraisal (PRA/PLA) methods and other approaches.
  8. Conducting quantitative and qualitative research with the utilisation of advanced tools and software for comprehensive analysis.
  9. Facilitating interactions and engagement with communities and organisations, employing participatory learning and action methodologies.
