The consultant for the SOCO Project Baseline Study is recruiting the following:
1. A Computer-Based Personal Interviewing (CAPI) Expert,
Qualification and experience
• PhD/Master’s degree (Development Studies, Planning, Economics, Statistics, Political Science, Public
Policy, Sociology etc.)
• Should have at least MA/MSc in Computer related programme from a recognized institution.
• Should have experience in developing CAPI programme.
• Have a minimum of 5years of experience in implementing research using CAPI.
• Capable of ensuring data programming and data quality monitoring.
Responsibilities
i. Primary developer of a CAPI programme for the Baseline Study
ii. Install the CAPI programme on all tablets for data collection
iii. Ensure the interview flows and that data control and support are embedded in the program
iv. Provide support if any technical issue arises during training and especially during data collection.
v. Maintain data quality control during and after the data collection phase with the support of the data
manager
vi. Monitor data collected on a day-to-day basis with support from the data management team to provide
prompt feedback to field teams if any issues related to data arise,
vii. including implementing a data quality control process to monitor and sanction any invalid data entry.
2. Data Management Manager
Qualification and experience
• PhD/Master’s degree (Development Studies, Planning, Economics, Statistics, Political Science, Public
Policy, Sociology etc.)
• Should have at least MA/MSc in Computer related programme from a recognized institution.
• Mastery of survey programming across multiple platforms, including programming complex CAPI
surveys.
• Experience programming in SurveyCTO/ODK is a plus.
• Experience designing and implementing a quality control process for at least 2 quantitative surveys
• Experience with data cleaning, data security, and exporting data in various formats (.dta, .csv, etc.)
Responsibilities
i. S/he, together with the CAPI expert will be the main actors for data quality control during and after the
data collection phase.
ii. Together with the CAPI expert, monitor data collected on a day-to-day basis with support from the data
management team to provide prompt feedback to field teams if any issues related to data arise.
iii. Together with the CAPI expert implement data quality control process to monitor and sanction any
invalid data entry.
3. Field Team Leaders /Field supervisors
Qualification and experience
• Master’s/PhD degree (MPhil. in relevant fields (Development Studies, Planning, Economics, Statistics,
Political Science, Public Policy, Sociology degree etc.)
• At least 5 years of experience living and/or working in Northern Ghana, comfortable and skilled
supervising teams in local infrastructure investment, climate risks, fragile and conflict settings.
• Experience supervising fieldwork for at least 2 social research activities, preferably for mixed-method
program evaluations.
• Have experience in supervising at least 3 to 5 mixed-method program evaluations.
• Have experience with qualitative interview techniques and conducting Focus Group Discussions (FGDs).
• Experience in working as a coordinator for the PTP/TTFPP of the SDD-UBIDS/UDS programme will be an advantage.
Responsibilities
i. The Field Teams Leaders/Field Supervisors will supervise data collectors in his/her assigned clusters
throughout fieldwork.
ii. Collect qualitative data using qualitative instruments.
iii. Report any issues on data collection to the SMT Manager.
4. Data collectors/field officers
Qualification, experience and requirements
• Must be a Postgraduate student at SDD-UBIDS or a final year SDD-UBIDS/UDS student of any of the following programmes:
Social and Development Administration, Economics, Environment and Resource Studies, Development Studies, Geography, Statistics, Political Science, Public Policy, Planning, etc.
• Speak at least one of the dominant local languages in northern Ghana and the Oti region.
• Have experience in collecting data using CAPI.
• Undertake field data editing during data collection.
• At least, 3 years of experience as an enumerator /field officer for household surveys.
• Should have experience in the UDS and SDD-UBIDS TTFPP/PTP programme.
Responsibilities
i. The data collectors/ field officers shall be responsible for collecting data using CAPI.
ii. Sync data collected on a daily basis and transmit to central location using the internet.
iii. Ensure data quality during data collection
iv. Any other assignment that may be assigned by the SMT
