The Directorate of University Relations (DUR) at Simon Diedong Dombo University of Business and Integrated Development Studies (SDD-UBIDS) is responsible for managing the public image and communications of the University. The Directorate serves as the primary interface between the University and its stakeholders, including students, staff, the media, alumni, and the general public. Its core mission is to promote the University’s programmes, achievements, and activities while fostering strong, mutually beneficial relationships with external partners and communities.

fidelis_zimberiDr. Fidelis Zimberi Tang is a distinguished Development Administrator with extensive experience in university governance, institutional development, and strategic communication. He serves as the Director of University Relations at the Simon Diedong Dombo University of Business and Integrated Development Studies (SDD-UBIDS), a position he has held since January 2024.

Dr. Tang’s professional career spans more than two decades. He began at the Standards Promotions Institute in 1997 before joining the University for Development Studies (UDS) in May 2000. He rose through the administrative ranks, first serving as a Clerk, Senior Clerk, Senior Administrative Assistant, Junior Assistant Registrar, then advancing to Assistant Registrar, and subsequently Senior Assistant Registrar. During these periods, he held key responsibilities across several faculties and central administrative units, supporting academic governance, faculty establishment, programme accreditation, policy implementation, and staff development.

He served in the Office of the Pro Vice-Chancellor and later provided foundational administrative leadership at the Faculty of Planning and Land Management (2008–2010). He further served as Faculty Officer at the Faculty of Natural Resources and Environment and the Faculty of Biosciences from 2014 to 2021, where he oversaw academic administration, mentored staff, and coordinated governance and reporting systems.
In April 2021, Dr. Tang transferred his service to SDD-UBIDS and was promoted to the rank of Senior Assistant Registrar and Sectional Head in the Office of the Pro Vice-Chancellor. His work during this period supported high-level management operations, strengthened institutional governance, and enhanced coordination across Faculties, Schools, and Directorates.
As Director of University Relations, Dr. Tang provides strategic leadership in communication, public relations, media engagement, and external outreach. He oversees the University’s publicity agenda, guides institutional branding, manages stakeholder communication, and coordinates initiatives aimed at enhancing the public image and visibility of the University. He prepared the Directorate’s strategic plan, operational handbooks, and key institutional reports that shape the Directorate’s long-term direction.

Dr. Tang holds a PhD in Social Administration from SDD-UBIDS, an M.Phil. in Development Management, and a B.A. in Integrated Development Studies, both from UDS. He is a licensed member of the Chartered Institute of Administrators and Management Consultants-Ghana and a member of the Ghana Association of University Administrators. His areas of interest include development administration, workplace safety, human resource management, and higher education governance.

Dr. Tang remains committed to advancing the University’s image, strengthening communication systems, and fostering engagement that supports the mission and strategic vision of SDD-UBIDS.

Media Relations and Publicity

The DUR coordinates all media engagements for the University, ensuring timely and accurate dissemination of information. It fosters relationships with print, broadcast, and online media outlets to publicise key events, academic achievements, research breakthroughs, and institutional milestones.

Social Media and Digital Presence

In this digital age, the DUR plays a crucial role in managing the University’s social media platforms and official website. This involves producing engaging content, sharing news updates, and maintaining active communication with the University Community and external audiences.

Marketing and Student Enrolment 

The Directorate supports the University’s enrollment drive by developing promotional materials and campaigns aimed at attracting prospective students. Outreach programmes to high schools, participation in education fairs, and production of audiovisual content all form part of this effort to showcase the University’s unique offerings.

Publications and Internal Communication

The Directorate is responsible for producing official publications, such as newsletters, annual reports, brochures, and event bulletins. It also manages internal communications within the University, keeping staff and students informed of important updates, achievements, and upcoming events.

Event Planning and Protocol

The Directorate oversees the organisation of major university events such as matriculation, graduation ceremonies, public lectures, and seminars. It ensures that these events are well-coordinated and in line with the University’s standards and protocols.

Community and Stakeholder Engagement

DUR leads initiatives aimed at building strong partnerships with local communities, governmental bodies, industry, and other educational institutions. It actively engages with alumni and other stakeholders to promote a sense of loyalty and support for the University’s growth and development.

External Broadcasts and Advertisements

The Directorate works with media houses and advertising agencies to produce radio and television commercials, print advertisements, and other external broadcasts that promote the University’s programmes, research, and special projects to the wider audience.
