On Monday April 4th, 2022, the Vice-Chancellor and some staff of the SD Dombo University of Business and Integrated Development Studies attended a Regional Stakeholder Consultative Forum, which was organised by the Ministry of Energy. The forum was on ‘National Energy Transition’ at the Blue Hill Hotel in Wa. At the forum, the Deputy Minister for Energy, Hon. Dr. Amin Adam (MP), proposed to the Technical Advisor to the National Energy Transition Committee to consider the inclusion of the SD Dombo University in the list of beneficiaries of the Government of Ghana’s Renewable Energy Laboratory Initiative.

The Minister further charged SDD-UBIDS through the Vice-Chancellor to make teaching, research and extension in the field of Renewable Energy a priority by establishing a department of renewable energy since the region is endowed with solar.

The Vice-Chancellor of the SD Dombo University, Professor Philip Duku Osei, informed the stakeholders that, The University currently has a Department of Natural Resource which could begin teaching, research and then an extension in renewable energy while the university goes through the accreditation process to establish standalone academic programmes in renewable energy.

The stakeholder forum witnessed other dignitaries including the Upper West Regional Minister, Hon. Dr. Bin Salih Hafiz, Hon. Hassan Tampuli (MP), Deputy Minister of Transportation, Chiefs, MMDCEs, Civil society and a cross section of the public.

The National Energy Transition Committee is replicating this engagement across the nation to elicit views from the Ghanaian populace to come out with a NATIONAL ENERGY TRANSITION PLAN.
