OsumanuThe Directorate of International Collaborations (DICO) organised a Stakeholder validation workshop to enable university management and other stakeholders to engage with the Internationalisation Strategy Committee on the Draft Internationalisation Strategy (2025-2029). Opening the Workshop, the  Ag. Pro-Vice Chancellor, Prof. Osumanu, Issahaku Kanton, on behalf of the Vice Chancellor, thanked the Strategy Development Committee for their hard work and commitment. He reiterated the importance of a deliberate and well-thought Strategy Document to coordinate the University’s internationalisation efforts and contribute to realising the University’s vision of becoming an internationally acclaimed centre of excellence in higher education.

The Strategy Development forms part of the Dialogue on Innovative Higher Education Strategies (DIES) project dubbed “Management of Internationalisation 2023-24”, which is jointly coordinated by the German Academic Exchange Services (DAAD), the HRK (German Rectors’ Conference), the Leibniz University Hannover and funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation (BMZ). In line with the Committee’s mandate, the Internationalisation Strategy is anchored on six strategic priorities: internationalising teaching and learning, attracting international staff and students, internationalising research and innovation, enhancing global visibility, building and sustaining strategic partnerships, and developing enabling governance Structures for internationalisation.

In her closing remarks, the Chairperson of the Internationalisation Strategy Committee and Director of International Collaborations of the University, Prof. Millicent A. Akaateba, acknowledged the Executive Management, Deans, Directors, Vice Deans, Faculty/School/Student Representatives and other stakeholders for their active participation in the Workshop. She urged the Deans of Schools and Faculties to play a pivotal role in implementing the priority actions outlined in the Strategy Document, emphasising its significance for the University’s faculty, staff, and students. She expressed appreciation to the Executive Management for the opportunity given to the Committee to serve the University.

Following the discussions from the Workshop, the Committee will finalise the Strategy Document for the consideration of the University’s Management, the Academic Board, and the University Council. The members of the  Internationalisation Strategy  Committee include Prof. Bernard A. A. Akanbang, Prof Stanley K. Dary, Prof. Frederick Dayour, Prof. Millicent A.
