The Department of Land Management in the Faculty of Planning and Land Management of the Simon Diedong Dombo University of Business and Integrated Development Studies (SDD-UBIDS), partnered with the University of Twente (ITC), the Netherlands, and Kadaster International in holding a stakeholder workshop. This workshop, the second of its kind, took place on August 26, 2025, at the SDD-UBIDS Campus, was on identifying existing and required land administration/land management capacity needs for development in Wa, Ghana. The project, brought together State Land Sector Agencies, Customary Land Secretariats, Tendamba, Settler Communities, and the Academia to discuss capacity gaps, land governance challenges, and pathways for sustainable land administration.

Speaking on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Emmanuel Kanchebe Derbile, the Pro Vice-Chancellor, Professor Issaka Kanton Osumanu, reaffirmed UBIDS’ commitment in advancing land governance through international collaborations.

Professor Nicholas N. Fielmua, Dean of the faculty of Planning and Land Management, stressed the importance of engaging customary institutions who hold most of Ghana’s land.

Dr. Baslyd Begerr Nara, the organizer and host of the workshop, explained that the partnership evolved from his doctoral research on securing indigenous land rights.

Marije Louwsma, Senior Advisor, Kadaster and Dr. Dimo Todorovski, Senior Lecturer of the University of Twente, spoke on activities and relevance of Kadaster International for effective and efficient land management for development, and the role of the University of Twente in the collaboration and training stakeholders in land management respectively.
