The Management of the University of Business and Integrated Development Studies (UBIDS) has reaffirmed its commitment to improving working conditions and staff welfare by the adoption of various measures in supporting the success implementation of University’s transformational agenda.
Addressing a durbar of the University’s non-teaching staff on Wednesday, 15th July, 2026, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Emmanuel Kanchebe Derbile indicated the promotion of transparent career progression and the strengthening of institutional systems as some of the key measures.
The Vice-Chancellor noted that UBIDS’ recently approved Strategic Plan, themed “Transformative Growth for Dynamic Success,” provides the roadmap for UBIDS’ development over the next five years and called on staff to support its successful implementation.
Professor Derbile acknowledged concerns often expressed by the workers relating to working conditions, welfare and career progression and assured staff that Management remained committed to finding sustainable solutions within the framework of the University’s statutes, policies and financial realities. He further emphasised the importance of adopting dialogue, consultation and adherence to institutional processes in resolving conflicts as a means of promoting a peaceful and productive work environment. As Professor Derbile put it, “Universities thrive on collegiality, shared governance and adherence to established rules and regulations”
The Pro Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kanton Osmanu Issaka, who addressed the staff on issues relating to appointments, promotions and institutional procedures, stressed the importance of understanding the different staff categories and the regulations governing career progression within the University.
He explained that the University’s appointment and promotion processes are guided by established statutes and urged staff to familiarise themselves with the relevant regulations and procedures so as to avoid misunderstandings of the systems.
The Registrar, Dr. Job Asante, urged staff to uphold professionalism and adhere to the University’s Statutes and established procedures in matters relating to appointments and career progression. He further encouraged staff to familiarise themselves with the prescribed waiting periods and eligibility requirements applicable to their respective grades before applying for promotion.
“The strength of every university lies not only in its academic excellence but also in the efficiency of its administrative systems and the commitment of its staff to institutional values and procedures,” Dr. Job Asante stated.
The Director of Internal Audit, Mr. Desmond Y. Ziniyel also addressed the gathering and explained that staff audit and attendance verification exercises are intended to strengthen institutional systems, improve accountability and support effective administration.
The Director of Finance, Dr. Mohammed Iddrisu Ngmenipuo on his part, called for unity, teamwork and collaboration among staff and reaffirmed his commitment to supporting initiatives aimed at promoting peace, harmony and institutional growth.
During the interactive session, staff members raised concerns and sought clarification on issues relating to appointments, promotions, career progression, staff welfare, security and working conditions.
Particular attention was drawn to opportunities for professional development, the welfare of casual and junior staff, and security concerns affecting some categories of staff who report to work during the early hours of the day.
Responding to the concerns raised, Management assured staff that the issues would receive the necessary attention and reiterated its commitment to fairness, transparency and inclusiveness in institutional decision-making.
The Staff Durbar concluded with a renewed commitment by Management and staff to work together in promoting peace, unity and institutional growth in support of the University’s vision of becoming a globally recognised centre for practical and development-oriented education.
