The Simon Diedong Dombo University of Business and Integrated Development Studies (SDD-UBIDS) invites applications from experienced, results-oriented, and highly motivated person to fill the position of Dean, School of Law.

THE POSITION

Dean, School of Law

The School of Law came into being in the 2022/2023 academic year. The siting of the law faculty in SDD-UBIDS in Wa provides a unique geographic site for legal education in the five regions of northern Ghana. Among the unique features associated with the School is its supervised third-trimester field legal clinical checks.

The SDD-UBIDS has a vacancy for the position of Dean for its School of Law, which started operation in the 2022/2023 academic year.

A person seeking appointment as Dean of, the School of Law must:

Key Responsibilities

  1. Provide operational and strategic leadership that supports the vision, mission, and goals of the University.
  2. Provide leadership and oversight of departmental plans relating to academic programs, curriculum, scheduling, and learning environments to assure institutional effectiveness and efficiencies, respond to student needs, and meet accreditation and regulatory requirements.
  3. Ensure that the school plans align with and support the University’s mission, vision, and strategic initiatives.
  4. Provide supervision and guidance to faculty and staff within the School;
  5. Establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  6. Establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with business and industry partners, agencies, community organizations, and/or education institutions.
  7. Actively participate in professional development relevant to higher education and their disciplinary field.
  8. Perform any other duty that the Vice-Chancellor may assign.

Qualification and Experience

  1. Terminal degree (PhD) or its equivalent from a recognized and accredited higher education institution related to an academic area within the discipline of Law.
  2. Experience in higher education relevant to the School of Law.
  3. Experience in managing programmes and faculty in higher education.
  4. Must be a member of the Ghana BAR Association.

 

Applicants must also show evidence of the following

  1. Demonstrated capacity to manage a School and to foster and promote good internal and external relations
  2. Proven ability to provide visionary leadership and innovation and to project a School locally and internationally through research, graduate output, and extension
  3. Proven ability to raise funds to support the activities of a School

 

Tenure of Office

The Dean shall hold office for a period of three (3) years and, shall be eligible, upon completion, for reappointment for a second consecutive term only. Applicants should be able to complete the first term of three years before reaching the retirement age of sixty (60) years. Where a Dean is not of a Professorial status, he or she shall hold office for two years and be eligible for reappointment.
