PROFILE OF DR. JUSTINE BAKUURO, ESQ.

The first of five children, born over some four decades ago to an educationist father and a house wife mother in Tuopare under the Nandom District of the Upper West Region, Ghana, Justine Bakuuro is currently a Lecturer in the Department of Languages Education, School of Education and Life-Long Learning of the Simon Diedong Dombo University of Business and Integrated Development Studies (SDD-UBIDS).He was recently called to the Ghana Bar on the 10th of October,2025 in which capacity he is a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Ghana.

Justine Bakuuro holds a Doctor of Philosophy in English Language and a Master of Philosophy in English Language degrees both from the University of Education, Winneba. He also holds a Master of Laws (LLM) degree from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. He obtained his Senior Secondary School certificate from St. Ignatius of Loyola Senior High School in the Upper West Region of Ghana, from where he proceeded to the University of Cape Coast to pursue a professional course in Bachelor of Education, majoring in English Language. Additionally, he holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), which enabled him to enroll into the Gambia Law School to pursue the Bar Professional Training Course (BPTC). Dr. Justine Bakuuro was duly called to the Gambian Bar in November, 2024.This gives him a touch of international legal expertise, having been called to the Bar in two Commonwealth Law jurisdictions.

A professionally trained Lawyer and an academic, Dr. Justine Bakuuro,Esq. has published over fifteen (15) research papers and three (3) books (e-books online) in peer-reviewed journals across the globe. He has served as reviewer for three internationally acclaimed journals as well as Editorial Board member for four (4) journals of international repute. He has supervised and continues to supervise both undergraduate and graduate theses including Master of Philosophy and Doctor of Philosophy theses. His specific areas of expertise as a linguistic scholar include Syntax, Pragmatics, Discourse Studies, Philology and Communication.

Prior to his appointment as lecturer at SDD-UBIDS,he was a lecturer at the Ghana Institute of Languages,Tamale and a tutor at the University of Cape Coast and the University of Education Distance Learning Centers,Wa.He also served as English language tutor at St. Francis Girls’ Senior High School,Jirapa,T.I. Ahmadiyya Senior High School,Wa,Wa Technical Institute and St. Francis Xavier Minor Seminary,Wa

Dr. Justine Bakuuro, Esq. served as the Departmental Coordinator, Department of African and General Studies for the Community Outreach and Business Incubation Programme; M.A. Long Essays; Level 400 Long Essays; and the Level 300 Internship Programme. He was also the  Academic Counsellor for Level 100 Students of the department as well as Head, Department of English, Ghana Institute of Languages, Tamale Campus.

Dr. Justine Bakuuro, Esq. looks forward to becoming an expert in Law so as to equip him with the capacity to help cure the Ghanaian society of injustice. He also looks forward to becoming a research expert in the field of English language so as to make him better equipped to help others who share his career. He hopes to sharpen his resourcefulness in the field of Law and the Queen’s language, by initiating and carrying out research in identified research-worthy aspects of Law and English linguistics. He envisages to ultimately contribute significantly to knowledge through research in Law and English linguistics as well as practise Law to the benefit of society.
