On Friday, June 7, 2024 the McDan Foundation’s CEO, Dr. Daniel Mckorley, visited the Simon Diedong Dombo University of Business and Integrated Development Studies (SDD-UBIDS) in Wa, Upper West Region. The visit aimed to connect with youth and foster entrepreneurship and innovation.
Dr. McKorley first met with the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Emmanuel K. Derbile, in his office. During their meeting, they discussed topics of mutual interest and potential collaborations for the benefit of both parties.
Following this meeting, Dr. McKorley proceeded to the University’s New Auditorium, where he engaged with students and youth from various tertiary institutions and senior high schools across the nation. The event featured a business idea pitching competition, with the winning proposal receiving GHS 10,000 to support their business and an opportunity to join the national team for a significant upcoming event.
In his welcome address, Professor Derbile expressed gratitude to the McDan Foundation for its efforts in inspiring young people and contributing to the country’s development. He emphasised the importance of continuing such programmes to strengthen relationships with the youth in fostering long-term development.
Dr. McKorley, in his address, encouraged the University to focus on entrepreneurship for the youth and emphasised the importance of building industries in the Region, noting its status as the nation’s food basket. He also urged the youth to practice self-discipline, avoid misusing social media, and embrace advancements in artificial intelligence as integral to future success.
The occasion was also, graced by representatives of the Wa Naa and other dignitaries.
