The Simon Diedong Dombo University of Business and Integrated Development Studies (SDD-UBIDS) has reaffirmed its dedication to international academic cooperation by joining the League of Tropical Universities (LTU) and participating in its 2025 Summit held at Hainan University, China. Represented by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Emmanuel K. Derbile, and Professor Millicent A. Akaateba, the Director of International Collaborations, the University joined over 100 institutions from tropical regions across the globe to discuss key issues covering tropical agriculture, digital education, holistic health, cultural exchanges and green development. The summit featured high-level dialogues on advancing sustainable development, research innovation, and educational partnerships.
SDD-UBIDS’s participation reflects the Vice-Chancellor’s visionary drive to position the University as a leading hub for tropical studies and global cooperation. During the event, academic leaders explored pressing issues such as climate resilience, inclusive education, and the role of research in advancing the developmental needs of tropical regions.
Opportunities for Faculty: LTU Visiting Scholar Programme
One of the major announcements at the summit was the call for applications to the LTU Visiting Scholar Programme at Hainan University. The programme invites young academic professionals from LTU member institutions to engage in collaborative research and academic exchange in China for a period of three to six months.
Programme Highlights:
- Training Focus: Visiting scholars will work under a dedicated academic supervisor on frontier research areas to enhance their teaching, research, and innovation skills.
- Eligibility: Applicants must be under 45 years of age, hold a PhD or equivalent academic rank, and demonstrate strong academic and ethical standing. Proficiency in either Chinese or English is required.
- Benefits: Scholars will receive free on-campus accommodation, a monthly living allowance of RMB 2,500 (payable after successful assessment), and full commercial insurance coverage.
- Application Deadline: June 30, 2025.
