On February 22, 2024, the School of Graduate Studies and Research, and Counselling Unit of the Simon Diedong Dombo University of Business and Integrated Development Studies, jointly organised an orientation session for postgraduate students at the New Auditorium. The orientation was in two sessions.

In the first session, Prof. Osumanu I. Kanton, who represented the Ag. Vice-Chancellor, Prof Emmanuel K. Derbile, in a speech, provided insight into the history of graduate studies from the then University for Development Studies up to UBIDS.  In highlighting the growth and expansion of postgraduate studies over the years, Prof. Kanton also emphasised the importance of research in graduate studies, hence the name “School of Graduate Studies and Research”. He concluded by addressing common misconceptions some postgraduate students mostly hold onto and advised them to take personal responsibility for their academic progress rather.

During the second session, Professor Bernard A. Akanbang, the Dean, focused on academic-related issues concerning postgraduate studies at the University. Advising students to constantly refer to the graduate handbook when in doubt, he also mentioned some upcoming collaborations that the School has initiated, which will benefit students when materialised.  The Registrar, Director of Academic Affairs, Ag. Librarian, Head of the Counselling Unit, GRASAG President and other staff gave advice to the students.
