The Vice-Chancellor (VC), Prof Emmanuel K. Derbile, paid a courtesy call on the Overlord of the Wala Traditional Area on Tuesday, May 7, 20024 at the Chief’s Palace. The purpose of the courtesy call was to officially inform the Chief and his Elders about his appointment as the substantive Vice-Chancellor of the Simon Diedong Dombo University of Business and Integrated Development Studies (SDD-UBIDS). This was as a result of a report submitted by the Search Committee of Council to the Chairman of the University Governing Council. Following the VC’s remarks, he also seized the opportunity to introduced Prof Osumanu I. Kanton as the new Acting Pro Vice-Chancellor appointed by the University Governing Council.
Professor E.K. Derbile further stated that his appointment could not have come through without the prayerful support and the blessings of the Chief and his Elders which culminated into the new appointment of his, hence, is very important to visit. The VC also said that his second mission was to inform the Chief that some actions on the previous fatherly-advised and good suggestions made to him at his recent visit to the palace regarding the usage of the internally generated funds to complete some of the building projects to augment the current inadequate lecture halls and office spaces were being implement. The next, about the fostering unity among workers of the University and community was one of his major priority areas that he and his team were closely working at.
In his concluding remarks, the VC called for continuous prayerful support from the Chief and his Elders to successfully end his tenure with much developmental projects, empowering of the human resource and moving the University a notch higher. Above all, he advocated for better harmonious University-Community relations, and ended up by telling the Chief and his Elders that the doors of the University are widely opened for mutual and fruitful discussions for the upliftment of the University.
Remarks from the Chief
The Chief and his Elders were happy for a prayer come true. He was very appreciative of the visit and said he would continue to pray and also support the VC and the entire University Community for a better growth. He stressed that the VC should never hesitate to bring to his attention any time he is confronted with challenges.
The Chief, however, appealed to the Vice-Chancellor and Management to develop and introduce languages of the Region for sustainability of the rich culture value of the Upper West people. The Chief, also persuaded him to take the development of the University and the Region as his topmost priority since these can reflect his achievements in future. He added, “A man is measured by his number of achievements and not number of years”.
In his concluding remarks, he said a good son returns to his father when fortunes are attained, whilst the other would praises himself for his personal achievements.

Symbolically, the Chief honoured the Vice-Chancellor with a traditional smock to depict a father’s gift to an industrious son.
