The Deputy Minister for Education and Member of Parliament for Builsa South, Dr. Clement Abas Apaak, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to completing all stalled infrastructural projects at the Simon Diedong Dombo University of Business and Integrated Development Studies (SDD-UBIDS).

He addressed dignitaries, staff, traditional authorities, and students as the guest speaker at the university’s 4th Congregation held on Saturday, November 22, 2025, in Wa.

Dr. Apaak acknowledged the pressing infrastructural challenges confronting the university, stressing that the government fully appreciates the urgency of addressing them.

“Let me mention that the government is aware of the acute, and I emphasise acute infrastructural deficit your university is currently experiencing,” he said.

“As a matter of policy, the government is paying attention to your particular situation and has committed to completing these uncompleted projects to provide state-of-the-art infrastructure for your university.”

He emphasised that the government’s new approach is to prioritise the completion of ongoing and abandoned projects before initiating new ones aimed at easing the strain on institutions like UBIDS, which continue to grapple with resource limitations that affect teaching, learning, and research.

“We want to concentrate on completing already initiated projects before starting new ones, to bring relief to the university community,” he noted.

The Vice Chancellor, Professor Emmanuel Derebile, lamented the impact of incomplete projects which stalled for over a decade.

According to him, the university needs to overcome the infrastructure deficit, ensuring the university meets its strategic goals, expands operations, and strengthens its contribution to national development.

In order to complement the government in addressing the infrastructural deficit, he said the university has introduced the Accelerated GETFund Infrastructure Completion Initiative, which leverages internally generated funds and alternative financing strategies to fast-track the completion of priority projects.

A total of 2,183 students were awarded various degrees, comprising 688 postgraduates made up of 10–14 PhDs, 30 MPhils, and over 500 MSc graduates, as well as 1,495 undergraduates and diploma holders.
