The Upper West Regional Commander of the Ghana Police Service paid a courtesy call on the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Emmanuel Kanchebe Derbile of the Simon Diedong Dombo University of Business and Integrated Development Studies (SDD-UBIDS). The visit, which took place on Thursday, November 20, 2025, strengthened the collaborative relationship between the Police Service and the University, with a renewed focus on enhancing campus safety and security of students, staff, and the wider university community.
Strengthening Campus Security
Welcoming the delegation, Professor Derbile expressed appreciation for the continued support of the Ghana Police Service. He reiterated the University’s long-term vision of upgrading its current police post into a fully equipped, modern police station capable of responding swiftly to campus incidents and serving the rapidly growing university population.
He noted that while the University has made significant strides in maintaining a safe learning environment, the establishment of a police station remains essential to improving emergency response and ensuring the protection of the University community. The Vice-Chancellor commended the Police Service for its ongoing collaboration and reaffirmed UBIDS’ readiness to work closely with security agencies to safeguard both the campus and surrounding communities.
Police Service Commends UBIDS
The Regional Commander, DCOP. Francis Yiribaare acknowledged the strategic importance of SDD-UBIDS to the Region’s socio-economic development. He highlighted recent security concerns on access routes into the Upper West Region and praised the Vice-Chancellor and his management team for maintaining a secure and stable environment despite these challenges.
DCOP Yiribaare attributed this success to Professor Derbile’s proactive leadership and strong cooperation with the Ghana Police Service. He emphasised the need to upgrade the current police post to a full-fledged station to adequately support the expanding University community and ensure a comprehensive law enforcement presence on campus and the surrounding communities. The Regional Commander was accompanied by: ACP Peter Kamasa, 2nd in Command; Supt. Simon Dentey, Regional Crime Officer, and DSP Michael Toya, Regional Staff Officer.
The Vice-Chancellor was supported by: Professor Issaka Kanton Osumanu, Pro Vice-Chancellor; Mr. Job Asante, Registrar; Dr. Mohammed Iddrisu Ngnenipuo, Acting Director of Finance; Mr. Desmond Y. Ziniyel, Acting Director of Internal Audit; and WO (Rtd) Mombu Naah Hamidu, Head of Security.
