Professor Emmanuel Kanchebe Derbile, the Vice-Chancellor of the Simon Diedong Dombo University of Business and Integrated Development Studies (SDD-UBIDS), has been inducted as a Fellow of the Ghana Institute of Planning (GIP), the highest professional recognition conferrable by the Institute. The induction took place during the 54th Annual General Conference of the GIP held on November 28, 2025 at the Modern City Hotel in Tamale.

You hold a BA in Integrated Development Studies from the University for Development Studies; an MSc. in Development Planning and Management from KNUST; and a PhD in Development Studies from the University of Bonn in Germany.

You are a Professor of Development Planning and the Vice-Chancellor of the Simon Diedong Dombo University of Business and Integrated Development Studies. You began your professional life as a Teaching Assistant in August, 1999 at the Department of Planning, Land Economy and Rural Development of the University for Development Studies (UDS). You later continued to be a Senior Research Assistant in August 2000 and rose the ranks to Associate Professor of Development Planning in September 2018 at the Department of Planning, UDS. In February 2022, you were promoted to the rank of Professor of Development Planning at SDD-UBIDS.

Pln. Prof. Derbile, you taught and mentored thousands of students across undergraduate, master’s and doctoral levels, successfully supervising over 30 MPhil theses and 6 PhD dissertations. Your scholarly influence extends far beyond the lecture hall, as you demonstrated through over 70 peer-reviewed publications that have shaped national and international discourse on climate vulnerability, livelihood sustainability, indigenous knowledge systems, environmental change, health financing and equity.

For your contribution to promotion of human resource development and planning education, the Ghana Institute of Planning confers on you the elevated position of a Fellow.
