The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Emmanuel Kanchebe Derbile, welcomed Charles Darko, SPE-GhIE, the Upper West Regional Director of Urban Roads, to his office to discuss road infrastructure development on the university’s campus. The engagement provided an opportunity to express appreciation for the department’s past contributions to the university and to explore further support for improving the university’s road network.
In his remarks, Professor Derbile expressed appreciation for the Department of Urban Roads past contributions, particularly in constructing the only asphalt roads on campus.
He emphasised the university’s ongoing efforts to finalise a master plan that outlines key road projects and upgrade plans.
“Due to financial constraints, we appeal for support in making these improvements possible,” he stated.
“The issue of university road infrastructure is a national concern, and engagements with Vice Chancellors Ghana (VCG) and the Minister of Education have highlighted the need for universities to be included in national road development plans.”
He also enquired about possible regional-level interventions, emphasising the urgency of addressing campus road challenges, especially with the approaching rainy season.
In response, Charles Darko, SPE-GhIE, assured the Vice-Chancellor of his department’s willingness to provide guidance and support in securing approval for road construction projects.
“We will explore ways to assist the university in achieving its infrastructure goals and ensure that necessary interventions are considered,” he stated.
Professor Derbile appreciated the assurances provided and reiterated SDD-UBIDS’s commitment to working closely with key stakeholders to improve road infrastructure for the university and its surrounding community.
