On Saturday, 19th March 2022, 4,372 freshmen and women were officially welcomed into SDD-UBIDS in a grand matriculation ceremony. This is the 2nd edition in the history of the University.
The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Philip Duku Osei used the opportunity to congratulate the new students who made it through the selection process. He stated that, the University had to refuse the application of over ‘1,200 (this figure represents those applications that could not be selected) applicants who for various reasons did not meet the necessary requirements. Out of the total of 4372, the percentage of males is 68% (2976), and 32% (1396) are females. Postgraduates admitted are 559, out of which the Weekend MBAs are 265. We are still working towards gender equality as a value and as part of our mandate’.
In his speech, the Vice Chancellor mentioned the importance of engaging in a political-economy discourse, and that, the Government of Ghana and the University’s Management are very much aware of the infrastructure deficit on campus and are working assiduously to see to it that all the uncompleted projects are fully executed to provide more space for offices and effective learning and teaching on campus.
The matriculation ceremony witnessed some fresh students who joined on-line from Bolgatanga, and Tamale, mostly Weekend MBA students. The entire fresh men and women swore an oath and solemnly declared their unflinching loyalty to the SDD-UBIDS, they later signed the matricula.
The ceremony was also graced by the Registrar, Mr. Job Asante, the Deans of the seven (7) Faculties and Schools, Heads of Directorates/ Departments/ Units and a cross section of the University. The SRC and the UBIDS choir were present as well.
The students were admonished to adhere to COVID-19 protocols and also to take their studies seriously as well as being security conscious. The Vice Chancellor tasked them to also ponder over the motto of the institution – ‘LEADERSHIP, EXCELLENCE AND DEVELOPMENT’
