His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, President of the Republic of Ghana, has reaffirmed his Government’s commitment to completing ongoing development projects across the country before embarking on new ones. The President made the commitment on Saturday, 12 September 2026, during the Upper West Region leg of his nationwide “Resetting Ghana” Tour, which was hosted at the University of Business and Integrated Development Studies (UBIDS).
As part of the visit, the President commissioned the University’s Auditorium and Central Administration Block, marking a significant milestone in the development of the University’s infrastructure.
Addressing stakeholders including the University community, His Excellency highlighted outstanding infrastructure projects of the University and said he looks forward to commissioning the University Library Complex in 2027. He added that the completion of previously initiated but unfinished projects remained a priority of his administration, in line with its broader infrastructure development agenda.
Earlier, the Minister for Roads, Hon. Kwame Agbodja, highlighted the Government’s “Big Push” infrastructure programme, noting its contribution to improving connectivity, access to markets, and essential social services across the Region.
The President’s commitment to completing outstanding projects at UBIDS was warmly received by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Emmanuel Kanchebe Derbile (in smock), the University Management, faculty members, and students.
Following the commissioning of the Auditorium and Central Administration Block, the President inspected the Library Complex and pledged to support its completion. This gave renewed optimism to the University community about the provision of critical infrastructure needed to support teaching, learning, research, and administration.
In a vote of thanks, the Member of Parliament for Wa Central, Hon. Dr. Rashid H. Pelpuo, thanked the President for personally travelling to the Region to inspect ongoing projects and commission new ones. He described the scale and pace of development under the administration as unprecedented within the first half of the term.
The President’s pledge and the MP’s remarks were warmly received by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Emmanuel Kanchebe Derbile, and the University community.
