The Sports Directorate of Simon Diedong Dombo University of Business and Integrated Development Studies (SDD-UBIDS) successfully organised its maiden Inter-Hall Athletics Competition from May 9 to 10, 2025, at the B.K. Adama Youth Resource Centre in Wa. The event aimed to promote physical fitness, foster healthy competition, and identify potential talents for the University’s athletics team.

Athletes from Royal Hall, Jubilee Hall, Cardinal Dery Hall, and Limann Hall participated in various track and field events, including sprints, relays, long-distance races, javelin, long jump, and shot putt. Despite initial delays due to mobilisation challenges, the competition proceeded with enthusiasm and unity among the halls.

The competition concluded with Royal Hall emerging as the overall winner, followed by Jubilee Hall in second place, Cardinal Dery Hall in third place, and Limal Hall in fourth place. All participating halls were commended for their commitment and sportsmanship throughout the event.

Hall presidents provided feedback, highlighting challenges such as scheduling conflicts with academic lectures, limited access to sportswear and equipment, and low participation due to academic commitments – lectures. They proposed scheduling future competitions during less academically intensive periods, providing sports kits and equipment to halls ahead of events, and enhancing communication between hall executives and the Sports Directorate.  Also, conspicuously  missing was the participation of the University community to cheer these potential athletics.

The Sports Directorate acknowledged the observations and recommended early planning and scheduling of future events, provision of necessary sports equipment, enhanced student engagement, and continued institutional support to ensure the success of future competitions.

The first Inter-Hall Athletics Competition was a resounding success, demonstrating the sporting potential and enthusiasm of the student body. The Sports Directorate looks forward to building on this success for better editions in the future.
