The Office of the Dean of Students Affairs of the University of Business and Integrated Development Studies (UBIDS) on Thursday, 15th May, 2026, organized a handing-over and swearing-in ceremony for newly elected Students’ Representative Council (SRC) and the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) executives at the University campus in Wa.

The ceremony marked the official transition of student leadership from the outgoing 2025/2026 SRC/NUGS administration to the newly elected executives for the 2026/2027 academic year.

Present at the ceremony were members of University Management, senior members of staff, the Dean of Students, outgoing and incoming SRC/NUGS executives, SRC Parliamentarians, student leaders, and members of the student body.

Opening the ceremony, the Chairman, Professor Paul Bata Domanban, Dean of Students, described the occasion as an important moment for outgoing student leaders to officially hand over responsibility to newly elected executives. He commended the outgoing administration for successfully conducting elections and acknowledged their hard work, achievements, and contributions to student leadership throughout their tenure.

Prof. Domanban noted that although every administration may encounter some shortcomings, such experiences provide opportunities for learning, improvement, and growth in leadership. He encouraged the outgoing executives to build on the experiences gained during their tenure, aim higher in life, carry the name of UBIDS with pride, and aspire to leadership roles at the national level.

He also warmly welcomed the incoming executives and reminded them that they were assuming the mantle of student leadership with the responsibility of leaving a positive legacy during their administration. According to him, the new executives should see University Management as partners in progress and work collaboratively with them to promote the welfare of students.

The Chairman further assured the incoming executives of the continuous support of the Office of the Dean of Students and encouraged them to remain committed to the welfare and interests of the student body. He also urged them to familiarize themselves with the rules and regulations of the University and abide by them in order to effectively discharge their responsibilities and avoid unnecessary challenges during their tenure.

‎ The outgoing SRC President, Mr. Manaseh Tetteh, presented a handover report highlighting the achievements, ongoing projects, challenges, and recommendations of the 2025/2026 SRC administration under the theme “Building Tomorrow’s Campus Today.”

He explained that his administration undertook several impactful initiatives aimed at improving student welfare, leadership engagement, academic conditions, and campus life. Among the key achievements highlighted were the organization of seminars and leadership programmes, the launch of the UBIDS SRC Media platform, improvements in sporting activities, renovation of lecture halls, installation of projectors and sound systems, restoration of campus streetlights, and the introduction of first aid boxes in halls of residence.

Mr. Tetteh also outlined major welfare interventions, including the restoration of the Telecel data SIM initiative, facilitation of banking services for students, implementation of a partial fee payment policy, and efforts toward strengthening campus security. Additionally, he highlighted ongoing projects such as the SRC Bus Project and the proposed SRC Printing Press initiative, while emphasizing the need for continuity by the incoming administration.

The report further addressed some challenges encountered during the administration, including issues relating to Wi-Fi connectivity, among others, while proposing recommendations to improve student welfare, leadership accountability, and campus development.

During the presentation, Mr. Tetteh expressed gratitude to God and the University for the opportunity to serve the student body during the academic year. He also appreciated the continuous support of University Management, particularly the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Emmanuel Kanchebe Derbile, for their guidance and commitment to student development and welfare. Acknowledgement was also extended to the Office of the Dean of Students for its support throughout the administration’s tenure.

He further commended the SRC Electoral Commission for conducting a peaceful and transparent election that ushered in new student leaders. Appreciation was also expressed to the immediate past SRC President, Hon. Hafiz Iddirisu, for his guidance, encouragement, and unwavering support to the administration. In addition, he thanked members of the SRC Parliament, executives, and the student body for their collaboration, commitment, and contributions toward the successes achieved during the academic year.

In his concluding remarks, Mr. Tetteh encouraged the incoming administration to uphold the values of dedication, integrity, accountability, and visionary leadership in serving the interests of students and the University community.

Delivering remarks on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, the Pro Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Issaka Kanton Osumanu, described the handing-over ceremony as an important annual tradition that ensures a smooth transition of student leadership from outgoing executives to incoming ones.

He emphasized that the relationship between University Management and student leaders has consistently been guided by an open-door policy that encourages dialogue on issues affecting the student body. Prof. Kanton commended the outgoing SRC President, Mr. Manaseh Tetteh, and his administration for their leadership and efforts toward improving student life on campus.

On behalf of the Vice-Chancellor and University Management, Prof. Kanton expressed appreciation to the outgoing executives for their service and wished them well in their future endeavors. He reminded them that they would always remain part of the UBIDS family.

The Pro Vice-Chancellor further encouraged the outgoing executives to continue striving for excellence, stating that many renowned national leaders began their leadership journeys through student leadership.

Addressing the incoming executives, he congratulated the newly elected SRC President and his team on their victory and upcoming assumption of office. He assured them that the doors of the Vice-Chancellor and Management remained open to them and encouraged them to build upon the legacies of the outgoing administration for the benefit of the student body and the University community.

‎Following the swearing-in ceremony, the incoming SRC President, Mr. Isaac Diboro, expressed gratitude to students for the confidence and trust reposed in him to serve as their leader. He also acknowledged his competitors in the election and encouraged them not to give up, urging them to return stronger in future leadership pursuits.

Addressing his executives, Mr. Diboro called on them to serve diligently and remain committed to the welfare of the student body. He emphasized the need for unity and teamwork among the newly elected executives in fulfilling their mandate.

The incoming President further highlighted some initiatives he intends to undertake in support of student welfare and outlined key policy strategies, including partnerships and collaborative engagements aimed at improving student life on campus. He assured students that his administration would continue and build upon policies and initiatives that the previous administration was unable to complete, with the aim of bringing them to fruition.

‎The ceremony officially marked the transition of student leadership at UBIDS and reaffirmed the University’s commitment to promoting responsible student governance, leadership development, and collaboration between Management and the student body.
