POSITION:
1. Director, Centre for Gender, Diversity and Social Inclusion
Vision Statement
To create an inclusive space where gender equity, diversity, and social inclusion are nurtured and promoted through applied and action-oriented research and practical education.
Mission Statement
To serve as a hub for cutting-edge research and practical education on gender, diversity, and social inclusion issues in northern Ghana and beyond.
1.1 QUALIFICATIONS, ATTRIBUTES, AND CONSIDERATIONS
A person seeking appointment as Director of Centre for Gender, Diversity, and Social Inclusion MUST have the following qualifications and attributes:
i. Be a Professor/Associate Professor or Senior Lecturer in THE relevant discipline;
ii. Have strong expertise in and commitment to lead efforts toward the promotion of gender-based applied research and advocacy, women’s empowerment, and social inclusion;
iii. Show evidence of leadership and experience in management, sound judgment, vision, initiative, resourcefulness, and professionalism in the discharge of his or her duties;
iv. Have the capacity to foster and promote cutting-edge research on gender and social inclusion issues through mutually beneficial collaboration/partnership with NGOs, government departments, CSOs, the public, and other relevant stakeholders within and outside Ghana;
v. Demonstrate strong leadership, strategic thinking, and the ability to articulate a clear vision for promoting gender equality and social inclusion.
vi. Possess in-depth knowledge of gender studies, diversity management, social inclusion, and equity frameworks.
vii. Be disciplined and demonstrate adherence to University regulations as a statutory body and MUST NOT have conducted himself/herself in a manner that has brought the name of the University into disrepute;
viii. MUST be able to hold office for a period of three (3) years on terms and conditions approved by Council, before reaching the statutory retirement age of sixty (60) years and may be eligible for reappointment of up to three (3) years only;
ix. A successful candidate should NOTE that he/she can be reassigned to any other job role to serve their unexpired term if the appointing authority deems it necessary in the interest of the University.
1.2 FUNCTIONS AS DIRECTOR
A successful candidate (Director) should be WILLING AND ABLE to perform the following functions:
i. He/she shall be responsible to the Vice-Chancellor for providing leadership to the Directorate and for maintaining and promoting efficiency and good order in accordance with policies and procedures prescribed by Law, the University’s Statutes, or as may be determined from time to time by Council and the Academic Board;
ii. Provide overall leadership and direction for the Centre’s programmes, projects, and initiatives, and develop and implement the Centre’s strategic plan in line with the University’s mission and policies on gender, equity, and social inclusion;
iii. Lead the formulation, review, and implementation of institutional gender and social inclusion policies, and mainstream gender, diversity, and social inclusion perspectives into University policies, academic programmes, and administrative processes;
iv. Promote and coordinate research on gender, diversity, equity, and social inclusion issues, and organize training, workshops, and seminars for staff and students on gender sensitivity, sexual harassment prevention, and inclusive practices;
v. Facilitate integration of gender and social inclusion concepts into academic curricula and community outreach programmes.
