The SDD-UBIDS invites applications for its Graduate Student Assistant Lecturer for Fee Waiver Programme, designed for PhD candidates to serve as Assistant Lecturers while receiving a tuition fee waiver starting from the 2024/2025 academic year. These opportunities are available to outstanding and motivated individuals who are interested in taking up PhD studies and lectureship careers in SDD-UBIDS, Wa.
The programme is designed to fill-in teaching capacity gaps in academic departments and to support the University’s mission while providing mentorship, invaluable academic research, and professional experience to doctoral students.
Eligibility:
This opportunity is open to the following:
- PhD students currently enrolled in programmes of SDD-UBIDS.
- Successful applicants admitted into SDD-UBIDS PhD programmes for the 2024/2025 academic year.
- Part-Time Assistant Lecturers or Part-Time Lecturers who are willing to enrol in a relevant PhD programme of SDD-UBIDS.
Position: Graduate Student Assistant Lecturer
Contract Duration: 3-4 years
Responsibilities:
- Teach four (4) undergraduate courses in the assigned Department and or faculty per academic year.
- Develop and manage course materials, conduct lectures, and assess student performance.
- Provide academic support to students through regular office hours and mentorship.
- Contribute to curriculum development and academic planning within the department.
- Engage in research activities, aiming for publication and dissemination of findings.
- Fulfill administrative duties and participate in departmental and faculty committees.
- Support accreditation of programmes
Qualifications/Requirements:
- A Master’s degree, preferably M.Phil and or MSc. with research in a relevant field from an accredited university.
- Admission for a PhD program at SDD-UBIDS at the time of appointment.
- Established expertise in the subject area
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Physical availability and willingness for residence in Wa for assigned duties
- Maintain good academic standing and demonstrate consistent progress in PhD studies.
- Attend all required professional development workshops and training sessions.
- Uphold professionalism in all assignments.

Performance Evaluations:
- Annual performance review to determine continuous eligibility for the programme.
